Prior to becoming a Fresh Life Operator, Agnes Kwamboka, a mother of five, sold an illegal homebrew. It was a dangerous business that threatened her family’s safety. She would part with her money in order to pay bribes to the police. Her compound was also littered with flying toilets – plastic bags filled with waste. Her life improved when she joined the Fresh Life Initiative. She could now provide a valuable service, generate a good income, and no longer worry about the police. Her immediate environment became cleaner and the health of her community also improved because her family and neighbors had access to the Fresh Life Toilets.

30000 people per day with access to sanitation services
As of September 1, we serve 30,000 people a day.

The Problem

2.5 billion people lack access to hygienic sanitation. Inadequate and unhygienic sanitation is the second largest cause of disease in the world. It leads to contaminated waterways and food supply, as well as infections like diarrhea that caused by direct contact with human waste.

What we do

Sanergy designs and manufactures low-cost, high-quality sanitation facilities. Through informal settlements, Sanergy builds a network of Fresh Life Operators – local residents who purchase and operate Sanergy's hygienic sanitation facilities.

What distinguishes us?

On a daily basis, Sanergy collects the waste collected in their Fresh Life facilities and converts it into useful by-products such as organic fertilizer and renewable energy that can be used by Kenyan farmers.
